On 20th June 2023, DG COMPETITION will celebrate twenty years of EU antitrust enforcement under Regulation 1/2003 with a conference that will bring together leading experts to discuss and reflect on the achievements, needs and challenges of the current antitrust procedural framework.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear insights and reflections from keynote speakers including enforcers, private practitioners, in-house counsels and academics, and participate in panel discussions.
Regulation 1/2003 and its Implementing Regulation 773/2004 set out the current procedural framework for the application of EU antitrust rules, namely Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). Replacing an enforcement regime based on centralised notifications and authorisations for Article 101(3) TFEU under the former Regulation 17, Regulation 1/2003 introduced a system based on self-assessment and decentralisation of enforcement.
After twenty years of practice and experience in the application of Regulation 1/2003 and its Implementing Regulation 773/2004, the procedural framework that these Regulations have created is currently under evaluation to ensure it is fit for the current times and needs.
Join the conference for an opportunity to get up-to-date with reflections and discussions that will play a role in determining the future course of EU competition law enforcement.
