On 15 October, the Luxembourg Competition Authority attended the Disinfo day and networking event about the impact of AI on disinformation organised by REMEDIS and EDMO BELUX at RTL Luxembourg.

This event brought together researchers, professionals, journalists, and experts to discuss and collaborate on combating disinformation in today’s digital age.

Among other topics, the participants addressed how artificial intelligence (AI) may be a source of both misinformation and disinformation and how generative AI is likely to amplify these issues.

Participants also discussed human and AI-driven methods for detecting misinformation as well as the emotional mechanisms behind its spread.

Additionally, the event provided a valuable opportunity to review existing fact-checking tools, such as True Media, Vera.ai or Originality. Participants also noted how AI-generated deepfake images, sounds, and videos put fact-checkers at risk of being manipulated themselves.

The Competition Authority has issued a guide to help internet users spot misinformation and act against potentially illegal content, such as hate speech and deep fakes. The guide is available in French, German and Luxemburgish.
