The Luxembourg Competition Authority took part in the Conference “20 Years of Reg. 1/2003”

On 20th June 2023, the Luxembourg Competition Authority took part in the Conference “20 Years of Reg. 1/2003: A (r)evolutionary tale” organised by DG COMPETITION in Brussels.

The conference celebrated twenty years of EU antitrust enforcement under Regulation 1/2003. It brought together leading experts including enforcers, private practitioners, in-house counsels and academics to discuss and reflect on the achievements, needs, and challenges of the current antitrust procedural framework.

Regulation 1/2003 and its Implementing Regulation 773/2004 set out the current procedural framework for the application of EU antitrust rules. They replaced the former regime based on centralised notifications and authorisations with a system based on self-assessment and decentralisation of enforcement.

After twenty years of practice and experience in the application of Regulation 1/2003 and its Implementing Regulation 773/2004, the procedural framework that these Regulations have created is currently under evaluation to ensure it is fit for the current times and needs.
