DSA : ONLINE | OFFLINE – SAME RULES!
ONLINE PLATFORMS
Online harassment, protection of minors, illegal goods, shadow banning: what is illegal in real life is also illegal online. The Competition Authority is launching a public awareness campaign to inform users of online platforms about their rights.
The Digital Services Act (DSA) requires platforms to better protect their users and provides users with effective means to take action:
- Illegal content and harassment: reporting content must be straightforward, and platforms must process reports and provide reasons for their decisions.
- Enhanced protection for minors: platforms accessible to young people must guarantee a high level of security and privacy.
- Freedom of expression: in the event of content being removed or visibility being reduced (‘shadow banning’), platforms must explain their decision and allow users to dispute it free of charge.
- Safer online shopping: more transparent advertising, better identification of professional sellers and the removal of illegal or dangerous products.
The principle is simple: the same rules apply online and offline.
